If You Want to Burn Your Manuscripts…

   I wrote a book once, took me 4 years to do it. Went to college to learn to write properly. Titled, Culture Shock, it is all about my experiences in Tehran, Iran in the midst of the Iranian Revolution in the late 1970′s. My step dad got a job transfer there when I was 12. Coming from America, it was very interesting to be there, although horrifying at times. Had to go into hiding for the last 3 months we were there, parents got trapped across town so it was me and the 2 younger siblings and a doberman (and one mean gun!) to protect ourselves. It has forever changed me and I wouldn’t take it back for anything. Sometimes the hardest things make you into the best person you can be (I love you, Christiane Amanpour! Now, this manuscript sits in an oversized shoebox on the top shelf of my closet. Sometimes I take it out and look at it, remembering the sheer blood, sweat and tears that went into it all. Writing it was truly THE most cathartic experience I have ever had. I want to burn it now, for it has served its purpose. But alas, you have convinced me not to… As I write this now, Sugar plays in the background. Dan, you’ve got all the Sugar you’ll EVER need! xo! ~Robin
